If you like, you can mention what music style or styles you're interested in, from simple strumming to advanced picking styles as heard in pop, folk, rock, classical, blues, etc. Of course, you can always change the style you're learning if you find it's not quite what you want, too difficult, or even too easy.

Music theory tuition is also available. A certain amount of relevant and necessary music theory is included as part of the lesson. Music theory as a separate subject can also be taught if required, either in person or online. Email for more details.

Any Questions?

Q: Do you accept complete beginners?
A: Yes. Complete beginners are also very welcome.

Q: What do I need to start?
A: Just a guitar and some blank notepaper. I’ll supply all the teaching material and sheet music at no extra cost.

Q: I need a guitar, but I'm not sure what to buy - and I don't want to waste money on one that's unsuitable. What can I do?
A: Visit The Music Centre in Cadzow Street, Hamilton, and explain that you're interested in learning guitar with FretSource. They'll give you all the advice you need on buying the right guitar to suit your needs - and your pocket.

Q: Am I too old to start learning?
A: No – Older beginners often have a much more realistic and relaxed attitude to learning, and value the feeling of achievement that comes with acquiring new skills in any field, especially a musically creative one such as guitar.

Q: How often should I have lessons?
A: Generally, once a week is fine, as that gives you a whole week to practice each lesson. If you’re a quick learner and don’t mind putting in the practice, then 2 lessons per week will accelerate your learning significantly. Less than one lesson per week will slow your learning unless you put in extra practice so as not to forget what you learned two weeks previously. Most students have a one hour lesson per week.

.Q: Can I save money by sharing my lesson with a friend?
A: Yes, up to three students can share a lesson - and the cost. If your levels and styles are all different, however, the lesson time will be divided so that each of you is taught seperately.
